PITCHING GRIPS

Circle Change-Up

Objective:  Place the fingers across the seams (as shown) with ball set deeper in the hand to reduce velocity while imparting spin.  This pitch should be 10-15 mph slower than the fastball.

Curveball

Objective:
Place the fingers along the seams (as shown) to impart a forward spin onto the baseball.  This spin causes the ball to break downward.  This pitch can have a greater range of speed (10-20 mph slower) but is usually about 15 mph slower than the fastball.

Four Seam Fastball

Objective:
Place the fingers across the seams (as shown) and centered behind baseball to impart maximum back-spin.  This spin maintains the straightest trajectory and creates the greatest velocity.

Slider

Objective:  Place the fingers across the seams with off-center grip (as shown).  As the fingers pull through the seam, the ball will deviate a few inches down and to the left.  This pitch should be 5-7 mph slower than the fastball.

Split Finger

Objective:  Place fingers outside seams (as shown) to impart force slightly outside the ball.  As the fingers pull through like a fastball, the pitch breaks downward.  It is thrown 5-7 mph less than the fastball.

Two Seam Fastball

Objective:  Place fingers inside seams (as shown) which imparts back-spin primarily and some side-spin.  This grip creates more movement and thrown properly, creates sinking action on ball.  Generally 1-3 mph slower than the fastball.

Alternate Two Seam Fastball

Objective:  Place fingers across seams (as shown) which imparts back-spin primarily and some side-spin.  This grip creates more movement and thrown properly, creates sinking action on ball.  Generally 1-3 mph slower than the fastball.
